As a photographer who draws much of her inspiration from fashion, music, and design, I have ALWAYS been drawn to gothic architecture, and the art it has inspired. Pointed arches, ornate wall and window accents, tall spires, stained glass, light-filled spaces… all of which can be reflected in their own way through fashion, as well—including in wedding attire. That’s why I curated this list of the best dress designers for modern gothic brides, who want to infuse a bit of that edgy, vintage romance into their wedding 🖤
Disclaimer: I’ve dedicated this blog post to gothic wedding dresses—but there are absolutely plenty of ways to goth-ify your suit, jacket, or any other form of wedding attire you choose to wear. Take design inspiration from these gowns, and infuse this gothic touch into your own outfit as you please!

Before we dive into the identifying elements of gothic wedding attire, let’s make sure we’re clear on what gothic themes actually are, as they’re often confused with emo themes. Both are subcultures that have roots in the punk rock scene, but goth truly rose in popularity in the post-punk era in the late 1970s-80s.
While there’s certainly overlap between the two, there are also distinct differences to be aware of when searching for your wedding attire! Goth refers to, well, gothic themes—horror, haunting, darkness, and the macabre—whereas emo is more focused around angst, pain, heartbreak, and relationships. Both share somewhat dark aesthetics, so when it comes to wedding attire, you’ll see similarities whether you seek out “gothic” or “emo” designs.
If you’re looking for more of those elder emo vibes, be sure to check out Emily & Mark’s rock ‘n’ roll chic wedding in downtown Seattle.

So what exactly makes a wedding dress (or wedding attire, in general) “gothic?” Let’s identify key elements that you’ll be looking for when searching for gothic wedding attire, and what you’re most drawn to.
First and foremost is color! We often associate gothic themes with shadows and darkness, so the assumption might be that a gothic wedding dress needs to be black. However, I want to encourage you that you can incorporate more modern gothic themes using dark colors as well, such as:
Pair any of these colors with black or charcoal gray for extra darkness and mystery, or opt for a bit of contrast by using shades of white, cream, or gold. Gothic also doesn’t have to mean just black or dark colors; in fact, most of the dresses featured in this guide are white, cream, or off-white with gothic design features, structural elements, or accessories.
When it comes to materials for your gothic wedding dress, think luxurious, heavy, and dramatic. Fabrics such as velvet, Chantilly lace, heavy satin or silk, leather, or tulle will look fabulous in any color, pattern, and texture!
The silhouette of your wedding dress will also be crucial to creating the gothic vibe you’re going for—opt for a dramatic ballgown, a trumpet style with a fitted bodice, or an A-line with a voluminous tulle skirt. Asymmetrical hemming can also add a bit of a subtle edge to your dress!
Accessories will be your best friend when designing your wedding outfit, whether you’re going gothic or not! Your gown obviously plays a key role in bringing together the look you’re aiming for, but accessories will help you personalize, glamorize, and make your theme clear.
Gothic-inspired bridal accessories may include:

Rue de Seine has always been known for its unique, handmade designs that blend bohemian themes with contemporary elegance, never shying away from colors, shapes, illustrations, and patterns. Rue’s latest collection, Tales From The Seine, features gowns inspired by the artists, poets, and rebels of Paris, combining vintage touches with modern boho elements. Delicate embroidery, ruffles, and draped chiffons come together to create a timeless feel, reminiscent of antique lace curtains and romantic French gardens. The 19th-century-inspired corsetry, delicate lace detailing, and tiered skirts have me drooling… they’re giving Bridgerton in the best way. I am OBSESSED with all of the dresses in this collection, but here are a few favorites for that modern gothic feel!

CINQ is for the bride who craves an ode to the past, with modern gothic details.
I could rave forever about my obsession with CINQ gowns as of late, from ALL of their bridal collections over the years. From the southern mystique of Collection I to the cinematic nostalgia of their upcoming Spring 2026 Collection V, CINQ gowns offer the ideal balance of past, present, and future, incorporating a variety of textures, layers, and one-of-a-kind pieces to make every bride feel like royalty. A little bit of romance, a little bit of reverie, every gown crafted to tell a narrative.
While you won’t find any dark blacks or edgy color palettes in CINQ’s current collections, it’s the details and materials that truly embody the timeless romance of Victorian-era designs—such as broomstick-plated chiffon, puffed sleeves, intricate bows, and glass beading. Collection V is by far the most gothic, drawing on a love for eras past with gowns that feel like they belong in an old painting at the Met.
My personal favorite CINQ dresses + accessories for the modern gothic bride:

For the modern gothic bride who yearns for a bit of color (or lack thereof) in her wedding gown, look no further than Danielle Frankel—specifically, the In Color collection. This is where you’ll find the most luxurious gowns featuring deep blues, black, and off-white, all of which offer the dreamiest foundation for your gothic look.
Each of Danielle’s collections offers a wide variety of unique shapes, textures, silhouettes, and designs, but Collection VIII has a bit more of a vintage feel that gothic-loving brides will undoubtedly be drawn to. Asymmetrical scarf details, gorgeous silk wool drapery, lace applique, and tulle overlays are just a few gorgeous pieces from this collection that’ll have you impatiently waiting to adorn one of these beauties yourself!
The Tabitha stands out amongst this collection, an off-the-shoulder taffeta ballgown with a soft corset and a voluminous organza skirt—available in multiple colors.

Vivienne Westwood is the designer to shop from if you’re looking for high-end dresses, luxurious jewelry, and gothic-inspired accessories all in one.
The Lace Fishu Blouse would be a dream to throw on over your wedding gown for a subtle gothic touch. The combination of the sleeved, hooded silhouette, floral-embroidered tulle, and delicate lace scallop details are oh-so-romantic, and can be put on display either as a veil or a shoulder wrap, tucked into the neckline.
Now this Three Row Pearl choker is EVERYTHING. Inspired by classic pearl jewelry and Vivienne Westwood’s distinct punk-historical aesthetic, the main feature of this multi-row choker is a glittering bas relief orb front and center. The luxurious, white crystals, surrounded by a sea of shining pearls, make for the most stunning centerpiece to any gothic bridal look!
Or, for a more subtle look, opt for the Messaline Choker instead—featuring hand-knotted black agate crystals, a signature orb pendant, and jet black crystal embellishments.
