Earlier this year, I hosted my fifth annual Galentine’s Day mini session event at the Stimson Green Mansion—and this round was extra fun because we carved out time for some special creative projects throughout the day! Massive thank you to the vision of Jaimie Ridgewood Films, I am so grateful that we got connected for this absolute dream of a floral editorial shoot in Capitol Hill.
In the words of Jaimie herself, this shoot was meant to embody powerful femininity and the range of beauty it encompasses. The duality of softness and strength, gentle fluidity and harsh angles; the idea that there is no one way to define femininity and what it means for the individual. I have always viewed art as a form of resistance, rebellion, and revolution, so to be able to capture this concept that so beautifully, thoughtfully illustrates the complexity & nuance that comes with modern femininity. . . what a gift.
Lua was truly the most fabulous model to bring this vision to life, willing to play, create, and explore every aspect of the vision we were looking to achieve with this shoot. The soft, yet vibrant color scheme of our florals paired splendidly with the Tudor-revival style of the mansion venue, especially the brilliant gold fixtures, warm walls, and textured wallpaper. Just as Jaimie envisioned, the harsh edges and geometric lines around the rooms of the mansion created a dreamy contrast with the soft, muted colors of Lua’s outfit and florals.
Speaking of florals, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a design as magical or unique as this one. Sarah, at Manette Flower Co, exceeded all expectations when bringing Jaimie’s vision to life, crafting a breathtaking corset made of gorgeous, gorgeous flowers. Soft oranges, pale pinks, and pastel purples covered this extraordinary piece, with additional floral accents trailing up Lua’s shoulder and spine, as well as a pair of fluffy tulle sleeves. After seeing Sarah literally cover her in the prettiest blooms, I am saying now that I think bespoke, wearable flower pieces should be the newest trend in both the fashion + wedding worlds!
There is no lack of fabulous venues, studios, and event spaces around Seattle, but the Stimson-Green Mansion holds a particularly special place in my heart. As someone who draws much of her creative ideas and inspiration from fashion, design, and architecture (especially from past eras), this mansion is a dream come true for all types of celebrations.
With a wide array of influences ranging from Renaissance to Tudor, Neoclassical to Gothic, visiting the Stimson-Green Mansion is like stepping into a different time period altogether; one featuring eclectic decor, medieval architecture, and rich Victorian details. We wandered through the mansion rooms with Lua to find the perfect spots, stopping in front of charming light fixtures, large paintings with exquisite gold frames, and all sorts of dreamy textures, patterns, and colors reminiscent of a time long ago.
The Stimson-Green Mansion also makes for a stunning wedding venue—take a look at this Vintage-Inspired Mansion Wedding to see for yourself.
Eternally grateful for the opportunities I get to work with talented vendors like these time and time again.
It never fails to amaze me the amount of talent, creativity, and bold beauty I’m able to witness as an editorial, fashion, and branding photographer in Seattle. Whether it’s working with luxury businesses to elevate their products, telling a creative’s story through fashion-forward imagery, or collaborating with upscale hotels to show just how much they have to offer to their community, it is an honor and a gift.
If you’re in Seattle or Detroit, I’d love to connect, collaborate, and create the vision for your upcoming shoot together—reach out here for branding work, and here for editorial.
If your creative juices were flowing while scrolling through this shoot, I have a feeling you’ll adore these ones just as much!
