There’s simply nothing better than exploring the streets of downtown Seattle with a couple of good friends as the sun sets over Elliott Bay, especially when those good friends of yours happen to be engaged—and ever so in love. Jamison and Charlie are good friends of mine, and their wedding this summer will actually be the last one I shoot before taking time off for maternity leave and welcoming in baby girl! So this session was extra special, and what a grand time we had prancing about the rooftops of Seattle + meandering through the city as it began to quiet down for the evening. A quintessential downtown Seattle engagement if I’ve ever seen one 🙂
To begin our time together, we made our way up to one of my favorite rooftop spots in downtown Seattle, one with gorgeous views of the cityscape, Elliott Bay, and the mountains out in the distance. This session took place in January, so don’t be fooled by how hot these two look in front of the camera—it was a chilly Seattle evening, made even cooler by the cloud coverings during the beginning of our session, and the cool bay breeze that gently swept over us as we enjoyed the views. Jamison and Charlie didn’t need any time to warm up (metaphorically—we definitely needed breaks to cozy up inside of our jackets); they were ready for the camera practically as soon as I pulled her out! It was all snuggles, sweet smiles, soft kisses, and meaningful touches right from the get-go. Although the skies were mostly overcast—which doesn’t come as a shock for a January day in the Pacific Northwest—we were lucky enough to get a teeny tiny bit of sunshine poking through before we left the rooftop, shining onto the buildings behind Jamison and Charlie and sparkling brightly behind them.
Before I take you any further into this romantic city adventure, I must take a moment to appreciate the thought and intention that Jamison and Charlie put into their outfits—I’ll be damned if I’ve ever seen a more perfectly styled pair for a winter session in the city! Jamison absolutely knew how to make layers work for her, with a classic black turtleneck as her base, atop which she wore a stylish light brown, wool trench coat and a long, fuzzy scarf featuring all of my favorite neutral tones. Her wide-leg black jeans and shiny black ankle boots peeked out beneath her coat, matching Charlie’s wool coat and checkered flannel, as well as her turtleneck. In love with the way these two used classic neutral tones to allow the city around them to shine, and the way they totally embodied the classic PNW winter vibes!
For the final portion of our session, we headed down toward the waterfront, not quite getting all the way to the pier but rather exploring the streets just up the hill. I will never not be obsessed with photos of couples crossing busy city streets in their best engagement or elopement/wedding attire; there’s something so romantic and thrilling about wandering around a big city with your love, surrounded by nothing but opportunity, wonder, and curiosity. Bonus points if the sun is setting over the water as you stroll beneath the towering buildings, with the golden glow illuminating the two of you + the bustling city around you ☀️
Pike Place Market is another one of my favorite spots in downtown Seattle for engagement sessions—check out this beautiful, nighttime Pike Place Market Engagement I shot with Sammie + Matt to see why it’s at the top of my list.
One of the best things I did for my weddings in the last year or so is to include a complimentary engagement session into every one of my wedding packages, and I wanted to share why ✨
I wanted to incentivize couples to take advantage of this bonus shoot (even if they didn’t need the photos for save the dates or for a wedding website), because I really think that getting to work together prior to the wedding day makes both of us go into things 100x more comfortable. My couples know exactly what to expect in terms of my vibe & posing styles, and I feel like I get to go into their most important day already understanding who they are as a couple to a certain extent — better able to honor and capture their story 🫶
Even though I was already friends with Jamison and Charlie, I am so grateful I got to spend this evening shooting with them before their big day arrives!
If that sounds like something you’re into, and if you’re looking to get your own downtown Seattle engagement on the books, you can find details about my Seattle engagement + wedding pricing here, and get in touch with me here if you’re ready to start chatting ✨ Can’t wait to create something absolutely magical with you, whether that looks like a romantic evening in the city or a cozy adventure session out in the beautiful landscapes of the PNW!
