Colorful fresh fruits, a badass personal trainer, and the opportunity to work with my best friend? Say less—this was a dream shoot! I got to capture my friend and business partner Alex in her absolute element, creating mouth watering healthy snacks, doing her favorite strength-training exercises, and overall just being the incredible, motivational trainer she is. Fitness lovers, look no further—you’re going to be obsessed with these branding photos for Alexandria Jean Fitness that we took in Detroit 🙂
Before I tell you all about how incredible this fitness branding shoot was, I wanted to start off by introducing you to the woman behind the brand: Alex, aka my best friend, Biz Retreat partner, and totally inspiring solopreneur that’ll have you taking actionable steps toward all your biggest dreams, stat. The Biz Retreat was an idea birthed from the need Alex and I both had for a strong support system as solopreneurs; the need for people in our lives who could provide encouragement, inspiration, and solidarity when we needed it most. Because let’s be real: owning a business is one of the HARDEST things I’ve ever done, and it’s impossible to succeed without support by my side.
Enter: Biz Retreat. Alex was building her personal training business, I was building my photography business, and we wanted a space to build toward our goals together—so we made one! Biz Retreat has been the most beautiful opportunity for the both of us to set intentional goals each year, create action plans, and find meaningful connection within our industry. I won’t bore you any longer with my ramblings about how much I adore this space we’ve created for not only our businesses, but for self-care. All that to say, Alex and I would love to have you join us on Instagram @bizretreat to learn more about this strategy workshop we’ve poured our hearts and souls into🤍
Moving along and bringing the focus back to Alex—I was thrilled to shoot branding photos for her personal training brand, Alexandria Jean Fitness in Detroit a few years back. Alex is the ultimate fitness gal for anyone looking to build simple, sustainable habits that lead to long-term success, and is the queen of movement; from at-home programs for newbies, to 1:1 training sessions with a focus on core engagement, to free resources to help you build realistic habits. Truly, she is the person to go to when you need not only a killer trainer, but a hype woman to be there with you every step of the way, no matter your fitness level. She offers SO many different ways to work together, and has endless resources on her website (including delish recipes, free YouTube workouts, and even her own fitness app!). I may be biased, but I can’t recommend this powerhouse of a human enough.
Now onto her brand shoot in Detroit! Alex wanted her personal trainer branding photos to be a little less cliche (you know, those classic stock photos of people working out in a gym) and a little more lifestyle; a little more down-to-earth, creative, and authentic to her. We started out in the kitchen for some health and wellness-inspired brand photos, using the yummiest collection of props ever—a colorful bowl full of fresh, fragrant fruits—to showcase Alex’s healthy eating tips. Those bright yellow lemons, deep green limes, and deep red + purple berries made for GLORIOUS detail shots for Alex to use across her website and Instagram feed—after all, who doesn’t love enjoying a fresh bowl of fruit?! Such a fun way to show off Alex’s healthy lifestyle, and to snap some photos to include in her recipe blog posts✨
The fruit theme continued for a quick hydration highlight, showing Alex sipping on refreshing jars of lemon & lime water. Who says you need to be drinking boring ol’ glasses of water or old-school Gatorade in order to stay hydrated? Not Alex, that’s for sure—and bonus points if you drink your zesty water out of a cute mason jar 😉
We then transitioned into more active photos of Alex doing what she does best: moving, stretching, and training! We’re not talking your typical gym stock photos here, though—you know the ones, with the bright fluorescent lighting & the too-big smiles on people’s faces that are just a little terrifying?
No, we captured Alex doing her thing in her own unique way: moving her body around in a welcoming, cozy space, focusing on strength, mindfulness, and listening to her body. I adore the shots of her moving & stretching in this warm, home-y environment with greenery, exposed brick walls, and gorgeous wooden floors—much more motivating to me than a sterile gym space! Love how we catered her brand photos not only to her, but to speak to her unique clientele who she knows + understands so, so well.
Capturing these personal trainer + fitness branding photos for my best friend was an honor, a pleasure, and a blast—truly so much fun getting to work and create with her in so many different ways, from this brand imagery to the retreat we’ve poured ourselves into over the past few years.
