When I tell you to make your engagement session feel like a special date for the two of you, THIS is what I mean! For Janie & RJ’s Seattle engagement photos, we hit up a variety of spots they loved that would serve as unique backdrops for their session, from Dick’s Drive-In to Add-A-Ball Arcade & Bar. And did I mention they brought pumpkins to throw in some silly Halloween vibes & commemorate the season? 😉 What a fun and one-of-a-kind day this was celebrating these loves!

An autumn date day in Fremont & Wallingford

Because why not turn your engagement session into a full-on date, stopping at all of your favorite places in town, eating greasy foods, drinking refreshing beers, and having pure fun in each other’s company? 

We spent this chilly October day exploring two of my favorite areas of Seattle, Fremont and Wallingford; finding little alleyways with graffiti art on the walls, posing on street curbs, and popping into vintage stores to find little treasures. These two embodied everything we love about fall here in the Pacific Northwest with their flawless autumn outfits, Janie rocking a cozy, oversized, mustard yellow & beige plaid jacket with a pair of killer brown corduroy pants. RJ matched the cozy flannel vibes with his own green & beige-checkered cardigan, a graphic tee with black jeans, and classic Converse that looked pretty killer next to Janie’s red Air Force’s! I know that some photographers tell you to avoid wearing patterns or colors that may clash, but I’ll be honest – these two absolutely busted that myth with their multi-colored outfits & checkered outer layers 👏

Fun Halloween engagement photos with jack-o-lanterns

To make things even more fun and seasonally-appropriate, Janie & RJ brought along a couple of jack-o-lanterns to celebrate the fact that it was almost Halloween! The combination of their fall-toned jackets, their baggy pants & street shoes, and the graffiti on the walls was absolutely killer and turned out SO fun in their Halloween engagement photos. What a perfect way to wrap up spooky season and head into the holidays – you could practically taste the pumpkin spice in the air & smell the wintry peppermint moving in to take its place. This is your sign to have a holiday-themed engagement session if the vibe fits what you’re going for; go tree-shopping at Christmastime, hay-riding in a pumpkin patch for Halloween, or wear heart-covered outfits for Valentine’s Day ✨

Iconic drive-in engagement photos at Dick’s Burgers

Dick’s Drive-In is an iconic Seattle hotspot serving up allll the deliciously greasy fast food you could ask for – burgers, fries, milkshakes, they’ve got all the good stuff. Janie & RJ were feeling a little hungry, so we thought why not make a pit stop at the closest Dick’s for a quick bite to eat? They hopped in the back of their trunk, ordered shakes & fries, and essentially looked like that adorable couple out of a 50’s rom-com who fall in love after a meet-cute at the town burger joint 🍔Plus, who doesn’t love photos under a collection of colorful neon signs in the city – and amidst the classic Seattle rain, no less?

Arcade engagement photos at Add-A-Ball Arcade & Bar

Our final stop of the day was Add-A-Ball Arcade & Bar in Fremont, a rockin’ old-school arcade with pinball machines galore and all the retro decor you could ever dream of 🔥Janie & RJ grabbed some beers at the bar, cozied up in a little booth for a few sips, and then made their way to the pinball machines surrounded by multi-colored flags, bright LED lights, and unique patterned walls + architecture. I think arcade engagement photos are one of my new favorite things – who else wants to incorporate some old-school games into their sesh?! Love, love, love how much fun these two had during their session from start to finish as if it was just a regular old weekend for them!

I am obviously SUCH a big fan of couples incorporating their unique personalities and hobbies into their engagement session to make it feel so, well, them. Below are some fun date-like activities that past couples of mine have done during their sessions to make their photos (and memories!) completely one-of-a-kind!

• Strolled around the Chicago Art Museum
• Visited their family-owned pizzeria
• Cozied up in a bar booth, did a cake smash, and played Scrabble at a picnic
• Drank coffee & ate croissants with their dog at a local coffee shop
• Posed with a vintage car on a rooftop
• Played video games, smoked joints, and ate ice cream in their apartment
• Took a boat cruise on Lake Union
• Styled their outfits based on the movie Daisy Jones & The Six
• Rode a motorcycle on the shores of an alpine lake
