If you were to ask me my dream Detroit shoot location, I would have told you Candy Bar Detroit at the Siren Hotel without skipping a beat. Grateful for friends on the internet like Meagan who completely unlocked the vision for this beautiful styled wedding editorial at Candy Bar!
I have never been in a space so perfectly named than Detroit’s Candy Bar—though it is not a candy buffet like some might hope, every aspect of this one-of-a-kind cocktail bar screams “candy.” Delight. Joy. Bold, bright pinks and greens envelop you as you step into the room, into a trance of alluring patterns, designs, textures, and shapes that invigorate the senses before you even take a sip of your handcrafted cocktail. Velvet love seats, marble tabletops, glittering disco balls, and the gentle glow of ambient light turn this bar into more than just a place to sit; it’s an experience from start to finish.
I seriously could have cried walking into Candy Bar after so long dreaming of shooting there, seeing the iconic chandelier sparkling above the bar and taking in each individual piece that was sent from Paris to call Detroit its home. And my god were our models a total dream come true, looking every part the romantic, aesthete couple that Candy Bar attracts. Breana in this satin champagne gown and velvet chartreuse heels, adorned in oversized pearls, was everything. . . and the pearls wrapped around her gown + layered above her neckline only added to the luxury of it all. Obsessed doesn’t even begin to cover it.
I’m not even sure how to bring up the extraordinary floral designs by Sans Grande, they truly do speak for themselves. The first a whimsical, joyful, monochromatic arrangement of pale pink peonies, luscious pink gerber daisies, and cascading strands of deep red amaranth; the second a matching bridal bouquet that was simply meant to be draped over this red velvet chair. Rachel truly outdid herself with these romance-filled pieces that felt every bit as wild and organic as they did luxe and lavish.
Candy Bar couldn’t exist without the splendid hotel it calls home, The Siren Hotel—aka the Italian Renaissance Revival-style hotel of my dreams. Part of downtown Detroit’s iconic Wurlitzer Building, The Siren is a spectacular 13-story building that invites you into an experience full of nostalgia, romance, and elegant luxury at every turn. It’s every fashion, art, and design-lover’s dream, drenched in rich colors, retro-modern furnishings, vintage touches, and thought-provoking patterns; every suite its own piece of art with artful touches from terrazzo tiles to bespoke Italian linens and hand-woven quilts. I could spend days wandering the halls of The Siren and still not fully know the depths of each intentional design, every thoughtful element meant to instill a sense of nostalgia, beauty, and history in its guests. What a fabulous and iconic piece of downtown Detroit that makes for the most glamorous wedding venue!
Speaking of weddings, The Siren offers three distinct event spaces to accommodate celebrations of all sizes, from intimate gatherings to luxurious celebrations of up to 100 guests, brimming with grandeur. Sweeping views of the city remind you of where you are, while not distracting from the unique beauty of the hotel itself; covered in hues and tones ranging from light to dark, muted to rich, sparkling to matte. Choose from the community event space upstairs that features a delightful mint-green palette for a more contemporary feel, Candy Bar for delicious libations, sensual romance, and intimate conversations, or the Lobby with its high ceilings, draping curtains, and Italian Renaissance design elements. Whether you dream of eras past or crave a blend of both antique and modern touches, The Siren is a magical place to say “I do” ✨
