My dream 70’s aesthetic was brought to life to perfection for Leiya and Steve’s forest wedding in the North Cascades—a little bit luxe, a little bit boho, and a whole lot of fun & funky retro vibes the whole way through.
Some might call me crazy for shooting this wedding so soon after Stevie was born, but I absolutely refused to miss out on celebrating this lovely couple after being so inspired by their 70’s styled engagement photoshoot! We packed up the car and headed north to the mountains and had a great little weekend getaway as a family. So grateful to L+ S for trusting me with their beautiful day ✨
When I say autumn, I don’t mean the heat of October when the fall colors are at their peak, or when the temperatures are cool enough to enjoy a hot drink at any time of day; no, I mean the early days of autumn when you’re just beginning to feel a slight change in the world around you. The days where the breeze in the air is gentle, subtle, but brings alive that craving for pumpkin-scented candles, for cooler days, for cozy mornings with a book indoors as the rain pours down outside. Leiya and Steve picked a perfect day in late September, where we had the best of summer combined with the best of those early fall moments—bright sunshine and blue skies, yet with a touch of that brisk autumn air that’s best enjoyed in the mountains.
These two didn’t hold back when it came to styling their special day to feel perfectly, exquisitely them, opting for a style that brought a touch of luxury while still remaining true to who they are. I’d consider this day to be very boho chic, with the color palette filled with soft neutrals and a vibrant orange accent, and the collection of funky, eclectic decor they chose. Somehow Leiya and Steve managed to execute such a unique way of styling that felt bold and bright, yet subtle and laid-back—I was immediately impressed when I showed up and saw just how their 70’s inspired, boho mountain dream came to life. The gorgeous shades of orange, the retro shapes and textures, the floral arrangements dripping with rich fall tones. . . consider my jaw on the floor.
Wandering Waters was the perfect place for Leiya and Steve to tie the knot, nestled at the base of the mountains with plenty of picturesque, private forested property begging to be explored. Surrounded by a gathering of their loved ones, the beautiful bride and dashing groom tied the knot beneath the warm mountain sun, bright blues and dramatic clouds showing off in the skies above. You truly never know what you’ll get with a fall wedding in the Pacific Northwest—especially one in the mountains—so we were extremely lucky to enjoy this glorious weather on such a late September day.
The bridal parties I’ve been photographing lately have been absolutely crushing the mismatched dress vibe, so I was obsessed with Leiya’s mismatched group. When done right, this is such a chic way to bring your wedding color palette to life!
A few tips and tricks to help you achieve the same seamless, intentionally uncoordinated look:
— Don’t be afraid to play with texture, choose a handful of fabric options for your gals to choose from
— Patterns can be your friend! opt for subtle, small patterns that add interesting dimension
— Create a Pinterest board and some recommended options to communicate your vision
— Keep track of everyone’s choices, create a view where you can see them all together
And aside from her glamorous group of gals, Leiya did a remarkable job picking out her own wedding dress—an absolute stunner from Rue De Seine, the go-to designer for modern, bohemian bridal wear. Give me a disco ball (or ten) at your wedding reception, and I will be one VERY happy woman. Nothing screams 70’s dream more than a collection of glittering disco balls, twinkling string lights, and copious shades of orange, yellow, and beige—and that’s exactly how Leiya and Steve approached their reception. They wanted a laid-back, late summer get together vibe while still preserving a sense of that luxe, boho chic aesthetic they fell so in love with, and I’d say they did that flawlessly. With miniature disco balls and vibrant orange blooms covering each and every table, guests were invited to enjoy a lovely sit-down dinner in close quarters, the intimate venue fostering such a beautiful space to connect in community. There could have been no better way to end this day of festivities than with a killer dance floor, a delicious cake, and plenty of drinks to go around—what a fabulous occasion to have been a part of.
