A styled in-home session with their sweet kitties, refreshing Aperol Spritz, vibrant fresh fruit, and intentional design + decor; Mariah and Chester were every photographer’s dream to work with. Inspired by Architectural Digest, this in-home couples photoshoot showcased not only the deep love present among this delightful couple, but also their shared passion for design, architecture, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for every guest who walks through their front doors.
Like many artists, my inspiration comes from a variety of sources: fashion, celebrations, travel, culture, people, places, music, architecture. . . it’s a gift to be able to incorporate the things that inspire me most into my work with clients. It’s precisely the reason why I designed an entire package to revolve around my love for Architectural Digest—nicknamed the “AD Experience.” While my love for those candid, casual, and laid-back in-home shoots will never fade away, it lights a fire in me to be able to be so hands-on with the style of a shoot, and to really get to create a holistic shoot experience for my couples.
When you book my AD Experience package for your couples session, I’ll style you to the tune of every space you want photographed in your home, with the goal that the final result feels like it could be featured in Architectural Digest. With a focus on elements including interior design, architecture, landscaping, and decor, I’ll take into account the unique dynamic of your relationship as well as the aesthetic you’ve worked hard to create and infuse that into the mood board for your shoot. After all, you’ve poured your heart and soul into creating a space that you love to spend your time in + that reflects the two of you—and that deserves to be documented!
We started Mariah and Chester’s session up on their rooftop, enjoying a cloudy spring day in Seattle with fluffy clouds, breezy temperatures, and little bits of sun + blue sky poking through every once in a while. Aperol spritzes in hand, they cozied up on the outdoor couches overlooking the neighborhoods around them, the colors of their outfits and cocktails pairing seamlessly with the pillows decorating the furniture. The vibrant orange of the Aperol, the mint green of Mariah’s summery dress, and the soft cream shade of Chester’s knit shirt created the perfect color palette to represent the transition from Seattle spring to summer. Even the drinks themselves were styled with colorful cocktail umbrellas and flower-infused ice cubes—to say I was obsessed would be an understatement.
It’s clear that Mariah and Chester share a certain passion for interior decor, seeing that every corner of their home was filled with intentional touches and thoughtful pieces; from the shelving to the seating to the kitchenware. Shades of green and warm neutrals filled the space, creating a modern, contemporary atmosphere that felt ever-so inviting. Vibrant, vintage records filled the space next to the record player; color-coordinated wine glasses lined the floating shelves; thoughtful accent pillows from velvet green to rustic leather covered the cream couch. I adored the shade of red that Mariah wore, the perfect contrast against the pale green of Chester’s turtleneck and the lush greenery that decorated the windowsills. Wine was poured, charcuterie was eaten, candles were lit, and champagne bottles were popped—but my favorite moments were the ones spent snuggling with their sweet kitties, just as they would on any other day. What an honor it is to be invited into a home so precious and intimate as this one!
In-home sessions have a special place in my heart, and there are SO many creative ways that you can make yours completely unique + personal to you. I wanted to share a couple more of my favorite sessions that may help inspire ideas within you for your own; that may help you dream a little further outside of the box and see all the possibilities ahead of you for creating art that truly feels like you, in the place you love the most, with the person you love the most.
Leiya and Steven’s in-home engagement session was inspired by Daisy Jones & the Six, embodying all the free-spirited, 70’s-rock-band vibes. We spent the coziest day in the woods at a charming little Airbnb to give them that intimate, home-y atmosphere, enjoying the beauty of the woods and the decor that paired perfectly with Leiya’s boho-dancing-queen spirit. Forever one of my favorites!
Sammie and Matt’s session took place in their own home, capturing the essence of their perfect “lazy Sunday” spent together. Cake, ice cream, champagne, couch cuddles, joints, newspapers, video games. . . it was so beautifully reflective of what these two love to do together. Who says you can’t spend your in-home session in your favorite pajamas, playing Mario Kart while you enjoy some sweet treats? The thing I love about these types of sessions is that they can look like anything—anywhere from a fully stylized, Architectural Digest-inspired shoot all the way to the coziest gaming session on your couch. It’s all about you, my darlings!
If you and your partner are craving a session like this that captures your relationship exactly as it is, in your home, surrounded by items and pets and knick-knacks that hold special meaning to you—then I’d love to help you dream it up. These sessions are all about truly being yourselves, and I would be honored to be allowed into your home to document these incredibly special memories for you. Get in touch here! 🤍
