Who says you need to leave the city in order to find beautiful scenery for your bridal session? I had the most delightful time exploring one of my favorite areas of Seattle with Jamie and Lauren for their springtime bridal portraits, meandering around the charming streets of Fremont and strolling through the grassy fields at Gas Works Park. Their Fremont bridal portraits truly captured the essence of not only the spring season in Seattle, but the deep love they share for each other—and what a treat it was to witness firsthand.
I took Jamie and Lauren’s engagement photos a couple of years back, so I knew we were going to have a grand time together once again—this time, to celebrate their nuptials! We met for the first portion of their session at Gas Works Park, which is undeniably one of the most iconic parks in Seattle. Though it was the very end of spring, nearly the beginning of a brand new summer season, you never know what to expect in Seattle; fortunately, we were given a gorgeous day brimming with warm sunshine, fluffy clouds, and vivid blue skies.
Located on the north shore of Lake Union, Gas Works is an incredibly picturesque spot in the Fremont/Wallingford area of Seattle and served as the perfect backdrop for Jamie and Lauren’s bridals. The grassy hills were at their peak shade of green after the spring rain, slowly beginning to dry out as summer inched closer and closer. Jamie and Lauren stunned in their bridal attire as they made their way along the paved pathways, with Lauren’s lengthy veil trailing behind them along the ground. Her dress was absolute perfection, especially for this transition period between spring and summer; featuring a variety of floral appliques, a gentle v-neck cut, and multiple layers of tulle. Jamie looked dapper in his rust-colored, black-lined jacket and matching bowtie, all of which paired perfectly with the vibrant greens and blues of the landscapes around them. Such an effortlessly gorgeous couple in every way—and whew, did they look incredible walking hand-in-hand up the winding pathways at Gas Works!

Once we’d soaked up every drop of sunshine we could at Gas Works and gotten more than enough images of the picturesque Seattle skyline, we made our way to the Fremont Bridge. The clouds had rolled in just a bit by this point, blocking out most of the sunshine, but the gray skies looked moody as ever behind the curve of the bridge, accentuating the greens of the waterfront grassy areas. The soft light shining down on the waterway, and the quiet of this quaint little spot in Fremont, created a gorgeous atmosphere for Jamie and Lauren to enjoy as they meandered along the water. I’m the biggest fan of sessions that feel effortless, and that’s exactly the word I’d use to describe this time with these two: effortless in the sense of both their easy, laid-back love, as well as how easy it made my job!
I absolutely adore when my couples book a bridal session that’s separate from their wedding day for SO many reasons. First of all, it gives you the chance to spend a little bit of intentional time together as husband and wife (or soon-to-be, if your session takes place before your wedding day), without the noise of anybody else around you. I know you probably love your wedding guests with all your heart, but having the chance to spend time together away from the stress of your wedding day and the crowds of people is something really, really special. You get the opportunity to focus solely on each other, reflect on everything that’s brought you to this point, and get images to capture those feelings that you’ll never want to forget.
A bridal session could take place either before or after your actual wedding day, it’s completely up to you! The majority of my couples will book their session for after, simply because they’ll be able to relax a whole lot more once the day itself is over—this could be the day after, a week after, a month later. . . the sooner it takes place, the fresher the feelings, but you also may want a little breather first! There’s no wrong way to do your bridal session; as long as you get quality time to spend with your love, and can be in a state of mind that allows you to relax & let go, that’s all that matters.
Bridals are also a phenomenal opportunity to do whatever you may not have gotten to do on your wedding day; for example, maybe your wedding takes place in the heart of the city, but you two also really love your time outdoors. Let’s head into the magnificent mountains of Washington for a bit of an adventurous bridal session, or find a sparkling alpine lake where you can have a romantic, celebratory picnic together. The options are endless, and as your photographer, I’ll always encourage you to do whatever feels best and most authentic to you!
Spending time with couples like Jamie and Lauren is the biggest dream come true, and I’d love to do the same with you as your Seattle bridal photographer. Reach out to me now about your wedding, and be sure to mention that you’re interested in planning a separate bridal session as well—cannot wait to dream it all up with you and create some magic together ✨
