Coffee, croissants, and a stylish, super-in-love couple – what more could a photographer want? Pawehi and Nate’s coffee shop engagement photos in Pioneer Square feel more like stills of a romantic comedy than anything, and I am absolutely in love with everything about that. With cute cameos from their pup, Ruby, the cool fall breeze, steaming cups of coffee, and the cozy atmosphere of Pioneer Square, this session was a dream – and so are these sweethearts✨
If you’ve seen any of my work then you know I LOVE it when couples incorporate their favorite activities into their engagement sessions, making them feel more like a date night than a photoshoot. It’s the absolute best way to make sure your photos feel like they truly represent an authentic part of your relationship, as opposed to setting up some sort of activity that doesn’t feel true to you & is just for the sake of the shoot.
And when I say incorporating an “activity,” I don’t mean you have to plan a whole date at the county fair or create an entire itinerary (although if that fits your vision, make it happen!) – it can be as simple as grabbing a table at your favorite coffee shop and sippin’ on your favorite drinks together, just like Pawehi and Nate did.
We met up at Caffé Umbria, a lovely artisan coffee roaster whose flagship retail store is located right in the heart of Pioneer Square – the perfect location for a bit of romance! As soon as these two sat down at a table outside, it felt like they were in their own little world in the middle of the hustle & bustle of the city, reminiscent of one of those overwhelmingly romantic, love-at-first-sight scenes in the movies 🥹Except it still felt so natural, as if I simply interrupted the two of them on their regular weekend coffee date. I was OBSESSED with capturing every small detail that contributed to the candid beauty of this scene; the coffee mugs, the flaky croissant as it was pulled apart, Pawehi and Nate’s hands reaching for it in the middle of the table. I could barely narrow down the photos I chose for this blog post because it felt wrong to leave out even the most minute detail!
I need to take a moment to appreciate Pawehi and Nate’s style, because my god did they look GOOD, rocking minimalist streetwear looks with a bit of a luxury vibe sprinkled in. Pawehi went with an all-white look to start, wearing a pair of loose white trousers, chunky white sneakers, and a snug white sweater, while Nate provided the perfect contrast in a long black trench coat, black pants, a white tee, and black Converse. These two showed up and showed OFF🔥And when Pawehi threw on a light brown, knee-length trench coat – *chef’s kiss.* Two absolute pros when it comes to layering for fall weather + looking like the most stylish couple on the streets!
After a quick outfit change (more on that in a minute), we shifted from coffee to cocktails with a visit to the Good Bar, a gorgeous, high-end bar in Pioneer Square 🍸Pawehi traded in her all-white look for a classy black blouse & blue flared jeans, paired with strappy black heels that added just a little spice to a perfectly minimalist look. Nate swapped out his black coat for a sandy jacket that fit beautifully with the classy atmosphere of the bar – I told you this couple knew what they were doing!

To wrap up our little adventure around Pioneer Square, the two changed one last time into a gorgeous set of wedding-esque attire; Pawehi in a stunning satin, white gown and Nate in a dapper gray suit. I swear they were ready to elope right then and there 😍I loved the criss-cross strings & the puffy sleeves of her dress SO much, and the way she kept her accessories simple with a pair of pearl earrings, diamond studs, and a small golden necklace! We meandered a bit around the streets and eventually made our way to King Street Station, where this bride & groom to-be danced around in front of the elevators, snuggled up against the guard rails, and casually strolled down the stairs under the beautiful bright blue skies of Seattle.
Spending this afternoon in one of my favorite parts of Seattle with such a sweet couple was a dream come true! These coffee shop engagement photos in Pioneer Square will forever be floating around in my mind – if you ever hear of a new romance novel with a coffee shop meet-cute that needs a cover photo, you know where to find me 😉 I cannot wait to photograph Pawehi & Nate’s backyard wedding this year!
