Can you think of a better way to celebrate your anniversary of moving to a new city than with a cozy shoot in your home with your love? I certainly can’t! It was such an honor to be able to step into Sammie & Matt’s relationship for this cozy, in-home couples session in Capitol Hill, inspired by their perfect “lazy Sunday” together. We had the most fun shooting in the beautiful space they’ve created together, incorporating as many aspects of their unique personalities & relationship as we could. I guarantee it’ll make you want an intimate in-home session with your partner in your home together ASAP!
Sammie and Matt wanted their in-home session to represent their relationship in the most authentic way possible, without any frills or fancy outfits that wouldn’t really feel true to them. So we did just that: I showed up to their apartment to help them celebrate their anniversary of moving to Seattle, and photographed them doing everything that they would normally do on a weekend together!
They started at the kitchen bar, drinking from coffee mugs, reading the Sunday newspaper, and passing a joint back and forth. I loved that Sammie felt most comfortable in her cozy PJ’s while Matt looked dapper in a knit collar shirt, black pants, and a pair of fuzzy socks. The absolute best part about doing a session in your own home is that there are zero rules: there’s no need to worry about people watching around you, and you’re not limited to certain locations or style choices to fit the setting. It’s YOUR space, that you’ve spent the time curating, to enjoy however you’d like to!
After some quality snuggles on the many comfy surfaces in their apartment, Sammie and Matt moved to the TV for a fun series of portraits while they played Mario Kart on their Switch! Truly iconic. I already loved the idea of documenting these two playing their favorite games together, but the fun rainbow colors on the TV created an even more fun backdrop for this portion of the session!
Speaking of pops of color, this apartment was filled with them everywhere you looked + was decorated so beautifully and thoughtfully. I love a good earthy, neutral color palette, but there is something so exciting about having an abundance of color to play around with and use in photos! The color in this apartment helped bring out Sammie & Matt’s vibrant personalities in such a fun way, from the yellow and turquoise velvet pillows, to the rust orange couch, to the bright pink neon sign on the wall. The mixture of these colorful accents with the deep greens of the houseplants everywhere made for such a gorgeous interior. These two seriously knew what they were doing when they artfully brought this apartment to life together!
Along with the fun printed pieces Sammie & Matt wore (who said checkered & cheetah patterns couldn’t work together?!), these two put on absolutely gorgeous burgundy & mustard-yellow velvet sets from Solstice Intimates that I fell in love with on the spot. You can NEVER go wrong with rich jewel tones like this, even in a space full of a mixture of other colors, patterns, and textures. 100/10 recommend buying matching intimate sets for your in-home couples session! It is ALWAYS an honor documenting the most special moments of a couple’s relationship, but getting to step into the space they’ve created together is an even bigger privilege. I can’t thank Sammie and Matt enough for allowing me into their home to capture this intimate, lazy Sunday-inspired couples session!💛
And as if I didn’t already love this couple enough, I also got to photograph their wedding earlier this year. They had the most gorgeous, celestial-inspired day on Whidbey Island full of magical decor, whimsical setups, and thoughtful touches galore – take a peek at the Whidbey Island Airbnb elopement here!
