Would you believe me if I told you that you could use pages from your favorite novel to craft your florals for your wedding day, or that you could incorporate details from that novel INTO your outfit? What about playing Cards Against Humanity over drinks with your guests at your reception? If that all sounds too good to be true, trust me – it’s not! Because that’s precisely what Taylor + Weston did for their wedding at the Sole Repair Shop in Capitol Hill, Seattle: they made every single detail reflect their unique personalities, their one-of-a-kind love story. What more could you want from your special day than to be surrounded by all of your favorite people AND nods to all of your favorite things/hobbies?! Game of Thrones & Harry Potter fans, unite – you are going to love love love this wedding!
Don’t ever be afraid to incorporate details on your wedding day that maybe only the two of you will appreciate. Certain songs, accessories, inside jokes — or in Taylor & Weston’s case, their floral touches were crafted utilizing pages from their favorite novels. For Taylor, Harry Potter; for Weston, Game of Thrones👏🏼Have you ever seen anything cooler?! If you ever need a reminder that your wedding day is just that – yours – just come back to Taylor & Weston’s big day and look at the way they incorporated all of their favorite things to make every aspect of their day so uniquely THEM.
Weston also incorporated other Game of Thrones-inspired accessories into his outfit, including his cufflinks that were the literal sigil of House Stark (a shiny, silver direwolf!), his boutonniere featuring not only pages from the books but also an epic little dragon figurine, and a dragon pin toward the bottom of his kilt. His emerald green kilt on its own was phenomenal, featuring a gorgeous silver sporran and plenty of glistening silver pins. Paired with a simple black bowtie, black hoses, & black shoes, this groom’s look was absolutely killer!
And while Taylor didn’t incorporate any novel-inspired details in her outfit, she looked just as breathtaking in her A-line gown, featuring a clean V-neck cut and layers upon layers of gorgeous tulle from the waist down. This queen KNEW she looked fire in her dream dress, looking confident as all hell walking down the streets of Seattle next to her handsome beau. And you know I love me some pearls – so I adored the simple yet elegant pearl earrings & necklace that Taylor paired with her dress (which her glam updo allowed to shine so beautifully)!
If you’re looking for an easy way to have a little fun with your first look, you can get sneaky with one of your partner’s friends and set up a fake first look for them😆Weston got all ready for his first look with Taylor, only to turn around and see one of his good friends standing in front of him in a dress. It was a great laugh before his beautiful bride came walking up for the real thing!
I’ve said it before, but I absolutely LOVE when couples exchange their vows in private, before the ceremony with their guests. It gives you a chance to enjoy the moment together and say your vows in front of only each other before you gather together with your loved ones, and is great especially for couples who may want to keep their vows totally private. You can 100% say your own, written vows in private beforehand, then repeat the traditional vows & I Do’s with your officiant at your ceremony! Watching Taylor & Weston exchange theirs in Cal Anderson Park, under the gorgeous fall trees, was such a treat✨
What better way to kick off the day than with a stop at an ice cream shop on the way to your ceremony? This wedding was the epitome of “Who says we can’t?”, from the details to the pre-ceremony ice cream cones. And that’s exactly right: if you have a unique idea for your wedding that might not be traditional or “expected” of you, who says you can’t do it?!
After finishing their sweet treat and snapping some gorg shots on the streets of downtown Seattle, we made our way to their venue, the Sole Repair Shop in Capitol Hill for the ceremony. It was a beautiful ceremony beneath strings of sparkling lights, surrounded by fall-toned florals, greenery, and candles that helped create such a warm, cozy ambiance. They said their vows in front of an intimate group of their friends & family, and participated in a rope-braiding unity ceremony to symbolize the strength of their love.
And to wrap up the big day, Taylor & Weston celebrated with their loved ones through toasts, delicious pastries & other bites, and card games – because who says you can’t play Cards Against Humanity on your wedding day? Love loved it!
Could not be more excited for this sweet couple🥂And, of course, a giant thank you to the rest of the vendors who helped make Taylor + Weston’s wedding day so amazing!
If you’re not familiar with it, the Sole Repair Shop is an absolutely lovely urban wedding venue in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle! The story behind it is fascinating, as it was originally a shoe repair warehouse (who could’ve guessed by the name, right?) in the early 1900’s. The Sole Repair Shop can fit 150 guests for a cocktail-style party (with partial seating & a dance floor), 60 guests for a seated dinner (with a cocktail party on the main floor), and 40 guests for a seated ceremony on the main floor.
Along with access to the updated, rustic space, the Sole Repair Shop provides couples with a variety of amenities and services to help them plan their dream wedding day – including in-house catering, rentals, and full bar services!
Rentals include:
Rental rates begin at $800 for Sunday-Thursday events, $1250 for Friday events, and $1500 plus tax for Saturday events. All rental rates have additional food & beverage minimums, but don’t worry – you won’t have a hard time meeting them with all the delicious food and yummy drink options that the venue has to offer!
