There will always be something so sacred about getting married on the very land you grew up on. Emma and Madison knew this when they chose M’s childhood home as the venue that would host their wedding day; a place that would unite past, present, and future in one grand and beautiful celebration. Whether on a riverfront estate in Moses Lake or in the urban neighborhoods of Seattle, backyard weddings have a particularly special place in my heart—and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to document this intentional, family-oriented celebration for Em & M 🤍

If you thought that a backyard wedding couldn’t be luxurious, think again. Emma and Madison poured their hearts and souls into crafting a day that celebrated not only their love, but also the people and landscapes that shape their story: the family and friends they lean on, the grassy lawns where Madison grew up, and the riverside views of Eastern Washington they call home. Each element of the day felt heartfelt and personal, while still maintaining an air of luxury and elegance at every turn.
Stationery set the tone for Emma and Madison’s day, inviting guests to their family property with minimalist yet stylish invites; soft cursive lettering paired with elegant serif fonts to share the important details. On the back, a sweet line-art illustration of the two added a personal touch and hinted at what was to come—a day where every detail would be custom and deliberately created for Emma and Madison.

From Madison’s Mediterranean-inspired fragrance, decorative cufflinks, and embroidered handkerchief to Emma’s gold ring stacks, pearl jewelry, and Estée Lauder perfume, no detail was overlooked. Her bridal look was unmatched in its elegance and sophistication, highlighted by a stunning satin gown featuring a loose cowl neckline, a dramatic low back, and a pearl backdrop necklace that glistened in the sunlight. My favorite parts, though, were the accessories—first the shoulder scarf that draped behind her arms and attached to sleeves; next the birdcage veil adorned with delicate pearls. Reminded me of some of the veil innovations I saw & photographed at New York Bridal Fashion Week!
The only thing that could possibly elevate Emma’s bridal fashion even more was the striking vertical bouquet designed by Everbloom Flowers. Brimming with bright white blooms such as calla lilies, ranunculus, and hyacinth, as well as lush greenery—from hanging amaranthus to pine branches—this bouquet was a work of art on its own, dripping with gorgeous texture and depth. Emma’s bridesmaids each held two simple calla lily stems tied with silk ribbons; a beautiful way to keep the bridal arrangement center stage!

After a celebratory champagne toast with her girls, Emma made her way out to a deck overlooking the river, where her dapper groom awaited in classic attire: suspenders, a black bowtie, and a deep blue tux. Madison stood in awe of his bride-to-be (as did I!), and the two shared private vows beneath the trees before heading up to the greenhouse for pre-ceremony portraits. Love LOVED this gorgeous spot surrounded by foliage and vibrant summertime greenery; it was perfection for elegant portraits of this stylish pair.
Equally as gorgeous as the couple themselves were Emma and Madison’s wedding party—the bridesmaids dressed in an array of beautiful blues and greens, and the groomsmen in matching navy suits. Kiddos ran around the property as we wrapped up family portraits, and I couldn’t help but notice how FUN this day was for all the littles. The family really stole the show throughout!

A few cigars, cocktails, and moments of mingling later, guests gathered at the riverside ceremony location and watched as Emma and Madison tied the knot. I had so much fun looking around at all their family and friends during their vows, admiring their fabulous attire and capturing the mix of emotions that swept across the audience. The warm Eastern Washington sun lit up the silk fabric they stood on as they became husband and wife, and the skies were as blue and vibrant as can be for their first kiss & walk down the aisle. Obsessed with their sweet dip kiss!

I truly could not have imagined a more exquisite reception setup for a private estate celebration: wooden chairs lined long tables covered in silk, olive green candlesticks, bud vases filled with calla lilies, and cascading greenery arrangements. Guests shared smiles and laughs as they raised their glasses, mingled near the bar, and eventually made their way to the checkered dance floor as the sun set above. Kids and adults alike enjoyed a fabulous evening with a delicious meal, a glamorous tiramisu tower, and a DIY gelato station—my new favorite wedding day desserts, if I do say so myself. I escaped with the newlyweds for a few final portraits of the day, then sent them back to dance the night away & cozy up by the fire pit tables with their loved ones. What a way to wrap up this exceptional wedding celebrating Emma and Madison, under starry skies and the sparkle of disco balls. A day I won’t soon forget 🥂
